History and Relationships

Relationships:
Crow - They be buddies. Syd being rather dim, is extremely impressed by intelligent people, and Crow is no exception. She finds him a bit odd, but highly respects him. Due to this respect, she is constantly pushing him to be more social and less of a wet blanket. She enjoys talking to him, and spends a lot of time hanging out with him in the crow's nest taking pot-shots at passing seagulls.

History:
    Syd's home island on the Grandline is famous for their high-tech gun-smithing and marksmanship. The animals on the island are particularly large and dangerous, so for generations the residents have had to adapt and create weaponry and traps for protection and a means of getting food. Technology such as aim assist glasses, active camouflage, and heat detecting binoculars are commonly made on the island. Hunter-gatherers are highly respected and relatively well-off due to the dangerous nature of their profession.

    Syd's mom was one of the most famous hunters/marksmen on the island, and expected her daughter to follow in her footsteps. She was very tough on Syd in a "Tiger Mom" sort of way. Any slip up was pointed out, and "excessive" praise was never given. Despite the fact that this was done out of desire to see her daughter succeed, she may have taken it too far. Syd grew up thinking she never got approval from her mother, which made her obsessed with the idea of surpassing her mom in skill. After training her ass off on her island, it became clear she'd never surpass her mother if they hunted the same game. So Syd came to the conclusion: To be the best hunter, I must hunt the most dangerous game. Syd left her home island at age 17 to become a bounty hunter.
